iSIM: The future of SIM

SIM stands for subscriber identity module. It is used to call or to use cellular data over a prescribed network. Sim is the thing which makes us capable to do conversation over the phone to our friends, family or relatives.

It is the most important part of the phone without this sim thing our phones are like a box. We are not able to do a single thing on a phone without sim. Sim helps us to reach out via a cellular network of different companies like "AIRTEL, JIO, IDEA(INDIAN)", VODAFONE(BRITISH).

Sim technology is growing smaller day by day due to the compactness and sleekness of the phone. The demand for compact and sleek smartphones made the mind of engineers to develop new sim technology which takes a very little space in the phones.

Keeping this thing in mind engineers of ARM develope a new sim technology iSIM which is commonly known as integrated-sim. This iSIM is developed but not standardised by the officials yet. This technology receives great welcome by the Tech-giant, all are saying this the future of the sim technology.

We are continuously developing our sim technology since 1991. There are five stages of the sim technology starting from full-size sim to e-sim.

Now, there is a chance of adding a phase as iSim(2019), developed by ARM. iSim is commonly known as integrated sim. As the name depicts, integrated i.e. the sim is integrated into the SOC(System on a chip). iSim doesn't need any dedicated processor, it is just on the processor like a cellular modem. The sim is installed on the processor, there is no need to swap the physical things(Micro or nano Sim) of plastics to change your operator. There will be a new method to change your operator by scanning some code or something like that which can configure the iSim. 

Advantages of iSim:

  • Space:  As the size of the iSim is very small as compared to Nano-sim. The space for physical sim is no more needed. our phone will be slimmer due to iSim.
  • Management: The SIM is in the processor, so the control over the sim will be purchased by processor making companies. This helps to manage easy for the users, like to change operators or changing plans will be easier.
  • Durability: Durability of sim increased, as the users will not be able to touch it.
  • Theft: The problem of stealing sims will be decreased and tracing will be easier, as the sim is in the device.
  • Cost: The cost of making it is lesser than previous Sims because it needs fewer components to build it.
  • Upgrade in technology: iSim helps to explore the use of IOTs devices. This sim is designed for IOTs devices. Control of all the IOTs device will be easier by using iSIM.
